The journey through the wilderness of Lent leads to a lonely cross on a hill – a cross where the powers of domination and evil believed they had killed the source of love. The love that they sought to destroy was none other than God, incarnate in Jesus of Nazareth.

But that love did not die. To the surprise of everyone – including Jesus’ own followers – love rose from the dead! And even more than this – love has shattered the chains which bound the world in fear, despair, and lies.

We are called to celebrate that love, to follow the One who is Love, and become partners with God in building a realm of justice, peace, and freedom in which all the children and creatures of God can dwell in the light of that love.

The three final days of Holy Week (the Triduum) and Easter is a time to retell the story of love triumphant. It is a time to renew our commitment to be people of love – a community of the resurrection. And it is a time to celebrate the freedom, joy, and hope we possess because of Christ’s triumph over evil and death.

I invite you to join with us as we journey to the cross – and as we journey beyond it, into the light of resurrection. Jesus has called us to a mission to proclaim the triumph of love, and he calls us to celebrate the love which makes life itself possible.

  • Wednesday, March 19, 6:00 pm – A Seder meal including the retelling of the story of God’s work in salvation.
  • Thursday, March 20, 7:00 pm – A Maundy Thursday service focussing on the institution of the Lord’s Supper. Afterwards, the altar is stripped and the reversed sacrament is removed. Join us as we commemorate the institution of the Lord’s Supper, celebrate our call to mutual service, and enter into the darkness of the tomb. Meditation on the reserved sacrament in the Gathering Room following the service.
  • Friday, March 21, 1:00 pm – A Good Friday liturgy of reflection, meditation, and stillness. We begin by marking the stations of the cross, move into solemn prayer, and conclude with Communion from the reserved sacrament.
  • Saturday, March 22, 7:00 pm – An Easter Vigil celebration of the new light coming into the world. We begin the service in darkness, moving into light as we bless the Paschal candle, reaffirm our baptismal vows, and celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter.
  • Sunday, March 23, 8:30 and 10:00 am – Easter Sunday service of celebration and Eucharist. The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia! Join us in song and celebration!

Please join us each every Sunday in this special community of St. Hilda’s, as we celebrate the resurrection anew – enabling and equipping us to build the spiritual kingdom of God! May God bless you and your loved ones during this holy season!
